| How to Use Twitter To Promote Your Blog | Twitter Tips |

Twitter was the first social media platform I started using when I first created my blog. It's the best platform to post direct links to your blog posts and it's, in my opinion, the easiest social media platform to meet other bloggers and make new friends! However, in order to get the most out of your Twitter account to insure you're getting your content not only out there on the internet, but also seen by many people, you need to make sure you're using it right!

I'll also be doing a post like this for Instagram, Snapchat, and Facebook so stay tuned!

Here are a few tips to help promote your blog on Twitter!

Follow other bloggers

Sounds pretty obvious, right? Whatever your "niche" is, follow other bloggers who have the same one, follow other people who have the same interest even if they don't have a blog, and follow brands and companies that specialize in what you write about.

Following other people on twitter is the easiest way to gain more followers. Just be wary of the "follow-to-unfollow" game that goes around almost every single social media platform. People will follow you, so that they'll gain a follow in return, only to unfollow you immediately. Don't play the "follow-to-unfollow" game, people know and you will start to lose followers as well as fellow bloggers' trust. You're allowed to unfollow accounts that you're not interested in, I do it all the time. Just don't follow people to gain a following and then unfollow them once they follow you back, that crap is rude.

Make friends!

The "blogosphere" is surprisingly a very friendly and supportive place. Don't ever be afraid to say "hi" to other bloggers or comment on their posts! I've made friends with plenty of bloggers this way and we all support each other!

It may feel like blogging is a competition, but it's not. I've found that the more I support other bloggers, the more they, and others, support me. It's also a good idea to make friends with other bloggers in case you have any questions or need help with anything!

Remember: "We rise by lifting others".

Interaction & Engagement

Having a high follower count is cool and all, but do you wanna know what's even cooler? Having less followers, but followers that constantly engage and interact with you! I've seen blog accounts with 10,000 followers but maybe 1-2 likes and retweets per tweet and I've seen accounts with less than 1,000 with 3 times the engagement. Now which do you think is better?

You also need to make sure you're interacting with other bloggers on their tweets! Leave a comment, retweet something, give it a like! If someone comments on one of your tweets make sure you reply back.

Brands love people with a big following, but they love people with a following that's consistently interacting and engaging even more!

Hashtags

Hashtags exist for a reason, use them! Just make sure you're using the right ones. I usually use #bbloggers and #bloggers in all of my tweets. I'll also use #makeup, #beauty, #motd, etc. Just use hashtags that are related to what you're posting.
I heard once that the amount of hashtags you use do matter, so I try to only use three in each post. That way my tweet is getting more exposure but I'm also not coming off too spammy.

Scheduled Tweets

This is something I have yet to do, so I don't have a ton of information about it, but it's highly recommended and I'm planning on starting to schedule my tweets soon.

Here's the basics. The average lifespan of a tweet is less than 20 minutes, that means the chances of somebody stumbling upon your content decreases greatly after 20 minutes. Now you obviously can't be tweeting something out every 20 minutes, you might not even be able to tweet every hour, especially when you're sleeping or you're at work. That's why scheduling tweets is so important. It allows you to constantly share your content without having to actually physically do it.

There's plenty of apps to choose from for scheduling tweets like Hootsuite and Buffer. Find one that you like and start scheduling those tweets!

NO AUTO DMS!

There is nothing worse than automatic direct messages asking you to read a blog/follow on social media/subscribe to a YouTube channel. They're honestly so tacky, so annoying, and I don't think anyone actually clicks on the links provided in them. I know I sound like a mega bitch here, but this seems to be the popular opinion among other bloggers as well.

There's nothing wrong with promoting yourself, that's why you created a Twitter account in the first place, but if you want to message someone with your links, do it personally. You'll come off less spammy and more like you're actually excited about having a new follower.

Those are a few of my tips for using Twitter to promote your blog! Now, I'm in no way a social media marketing expert, but I've been using my Twitter account to promote my blog for almost a year now and my stats are increasing, so I figured I'd share with you some of my tips to get the most out of your Twitter account.

Do you have any Twitter tips? Leave them in the comments!

And of course, follow me on Twitter! (I obviously had to promote my own account at the end of this post lol.)  https://twitter.com/heyitsaliquinn :)

| My Favorite Face Products Under $10 | Best Affordable Face Products

Creating the perfect flawless face look with makeup shouldn't and doesn't need to be expensive! Some of my favorite face products are ones you can find at the drugstore and for less than $10! In this post I'm going to share with you my favorite affordable face products.

Wet n Wild PhotoFocus Foundation: $5.99

I was skeptical trying this foundation out but it's actually one of the best drugstore foundations I've ever used. The smell is horrible but that's easy to get past because everything else about this foundation is amazing.
Wet n Wild has really been stepping up their game!

Maybelline Fit Me Matte + Poreless Foundation: $5.99

This is my go-to drugstore foundation and has been for about a year now. I love a matte finish because of my oily skin and this one is definitely one of the best drugstore matte foundations out there. The coverage is amazing, it lasts all day, and it doesn't oxidize. It also gives off the perfect matte finish and never appears cakey.

CoverGirl Ready Set Gorgeous Concealer: $5.99

I always hear mixed opinions about this concealer but, I personally love it. It never creases, it blends out nicely and it does a great job at hiding under eye darkness and circles.

Wet n Wild Contour Makeup Stick: $3.99

This contour stick is my favorite new Wet n Wild product! I use it every single day when I contour. The color is a great match for my skin tone and it blends so perfectly. My favorite thing about it is how easy it is to use. I feel like all I have to do is draw on my face and I have a perfect contour!

e.l.f. Contouring Blush & Bronzing Powder: $4.00

e.l.f. is one of my favorite affordable brands, they're consistently releasing amazing products that don't cost a lot. This contouring blush and bronzing powder duo in St. Lucia is so good. The blush is a super pretty, light pink color and the bronzing powder is a perfect cool-toned shade to use for contour.

Those are 5 of my favorite face products under $10! What are your favorite affordable face products? I'm always looking for new recommendations, so let me know in the comments!

| My Favorite Things To Do In The Spring! |

I love the spring! It's definitely the season with the best weather. I really love how everything starts looking pretty again and the feeling of being able to go outside without freezing my butt off is so amazing! I feel like I come out of some kind of hibernation in the spring and I start to actually do things again.
In the spring I spend a lot of my time outside enjoying the beautiful weather. In this post I'm sharing with you some of my favorite outdoor springtime activities!

Geocaching

Honestly, I can go geocaching every single day. If you don't know what it is, it's an activity where you use GPS to find caches, which are usually some sort of container with a log book and random items inside, hidden all around the world. There's tons of apps you can download on your phone so you can play.
I love looking for caches in the woods and on long hiking trails, but you can even find them in more residential areas, you might even be able to find one on your own street!
My favorite thing about geocaching is that you're getting an awesome outdoor workout and having fun at the same time! If you want to learn more, visit the official geocaching website linked here.

Hiking

There's not many things I like more than going on a long hike! Luckily, there are so many different places close to me that I can hike. This is a great springtime activity because the weather is perfect. It's not cold anymore, and it's not too hot out yet.

Spontaneous Trips To NYC

One of the best things about living on Long Island, is how fast I can get to the city. I live within walking distance to the train station, so I can just hop a train whenever and be in the city in less than two hours!
I love the city every time of the year, but it's perfect in the spring. The weather is great for walking around, and the parks look beautiful with all the flowers and trees blooming. I don't even need to really have something to do there, I'll find something to do there!

Outdoor Workouts

I've been really stepping up my work out game lately. Exercising is great for the body and the mind and I've finally found a good routine that's easy to stick to. I really like working out outside though, there's just something about the fresh air and openness. The spring is the best time to do this because the weather is perfect! It just feels so refreshing to be able to go on a run or walk outside after being trapped in due to the cold winter weather.

Go To The Beach

Now obviously the beach is better in the summer, but have you ever gone to the beach in the springtime? It's not crowded, it's not too hot yet, the breeze feels amazing, I could really go on forever. I love going to just walk around or chill out for a little, it's very calming and relaxing.

Those are a few of my favorite outdoor springtime activities. What are your favorite things to do in the spring? I'd love to hear! Let me know in the comments!

| April Birchbox |

I always get so excited when my Birchbox comes in the mail each month! It's so much fun to see all the beauty samples I get to try out and play around with.
I have to say, although simple, I really like this months box design! It's simple on the outside, but when you open it up, it's got a super cool design. On the card it says "...it's what's on the inside that matters the most.", and I just love that!

For those of you who don't know what Birchbox is, it's a monthly subscription box that features makeup, skincare, and beauty products. Each month you receive 5 samples that are curated to your needs and preferences. The best part is, it only costs $10 a month!

If you would like to subscribe to Birchbox, just click this link:
https://www.birchbox.com/invite/alexandraquinlann

Here's everything I got this month!

Amika Nourishing Mask

I seriously love this brand of hair care products, so I'm always thrilled to see something from them in my Birchbox! I'm not much of a hair mask person, but I'll definitely be giving this a try!

Kiehl's Daily Reviving Concentrate

I've never used a facial oil before, but I'm open to trying one out, especially one from a brand that I like. It says it keeps your face bright and energized which sounds amazing.

Marcelle BB Cream Golden Glow

BB creams are great for days when I don't want a full face of makeup, but still need a little coverage. This one is supposed to give the skin a golden glow while controlling oil and shine so I'm excited to try this out.

Number 4 Jour d'Automne Smoothing Balm

This packaging isn't super pretty but this product sounds pretty good. It's supposed to eliminate frizz and protect against heat damage and humidity, while making hair look soft and smooth. I'm so excited to use this!

The Beauty Crop GRLPWR Lips Liquid Lipstick in Imma Bawse

I love a good matte lipstick and this one looks promising. It's a super pretty deep red shade and I just can't wait to rock it!

That's everything I got in my April Birchbox! What did you get in your April Birchbox? Let me know in the comments!

| I'm Not Perfect & I Don't Need To Be |

I'm too ugly.
I'm too conceited.
I'm too fat.
I'm too skinny.
I'm too boring.
I'm too immature.
I'm too stuck up.
I'm too insecure.
I'm too lazy.
I'm too ambitious.
I care too much.
I don't care enough.
I'm not perfect.

I write something in my notebook, no one will see it, my handwriting looks weird, not good enough, I rip the paper out and start over again. I can't seem to get my handwriting to turn out the way it "should" look. I lose all inspiration and stop writing. It's not perfect.

I need to take pictures for my blog post. I spend hours looking up inspiration online, I spend money on supplies, I spend hours trying to get the perfect picture. The lighting isn't right, it doesn't look like everyone else's pictures, it's not good enough. I spend hours editing, trying to make it look as perfect as possible. It never does look perfect. It won't be perfect.

I look in the mirror, I need to do my makeup. There's a pimple on my face, one small stupid pimple. I can't do my makeup, that pimple ruins it all. That one stupid pimple makes doing my makeup pointless, I'll look horrible regardless. I walk away and head straight for my bed to hide under my blanket, I can't stand to look at myself. I'm not perfect.

I'm feeling myself for a moment, my hair looks good, my outfit looks cute, I did my makeup right, everything is perfect. Let's take a picture, show the world how "perfect" I am. Two hours later and I'm sitting on the bathroom floor crying, none of the pictures are perfect. My eye looks funny in that one, I look fat in another. Why does my face look so stupid? Why am I not perfect?

I sit down and look at my legs. They look too big, so does my stomach, when did I get so fat? I start to get anxious, I need to go home and workout until it hurts to move. I exercise and look in the mirror and all I can see is my legs, how big they look, my stomach isn't flat enough. Why can't I just be perfect?

I say the wrong thing, someone gets hurt, someone gets mad, the conversation ends, I lose a friend. I spend hours, days going over the conversation I had, over analyzing everything I said, everything they said, trying to figure out where I went wrong, what went wrong. What if I didn't say that? What if I said something else instead. Why do I manage to ruin everything?
I'm not perfect.

I do the wrong thing, someone is mad, I hurt someone somehow. I think about what I did for days. I spend sleepless nights filled with regret, trying to work out how I can fix it, what I could have done instead to prevent it from happening. What if I just did the right thing? What if things turned out different? Why can't I do anything right? I'll never be perfect.

I forget to take care of myself because I'm too worried about being perfect. I forget to eat, I intentionally skip meals. I stay up too late to get stuff done, I can't sleep because I'm anxious. I wake up early to try to fit as much into the day as possible, afraid I'll miss out on an opportunity to prove to the world that "I got this", that I'm perfect. I spend every second of the day making sure that I appear perfect, regardless of how I feel.

It took a long time but I realized I'm unhappy because I'm looking for perfection in things that are meant to be imperfect. I'm looking for answers to questions that don't need to be solved. I spend way too much time over analyzing things. My life is filled with too many "what ifs?".

My unattainable goal of perfection in everything has ruined so much for me. Chances not taken because the timing wasn't perfect. Relationships ruined because I thought I wasn't perfect, they weren't perfect. Assignments late because nothing I could ever do was good enough. Nothing was ever going to be perfect.

I've spent too much time trying to answer questions that don't need to be answered. I've spent way too much time over analyzing things that don't need to be analyzed.

So go ahead, think that I'm perfect, tell me I'm perfect, but you'll realize soon enough, that I'm not perfect at all and that's okay. Being perfect is impossible, no body is. I'm still struggling to understand this, to accept it. To accept being imperfect.

I stay up too late, I forget to call my parents, I say stupid things sometimes, I look like a slob 99% of the time, I can't cook, I hate cleaning, I'm selfish sometimes, I show up late, I skip workouts. I get sad, I get angry, I lack motivation sometimes, I don't always do the right thing.
But I don't need to be happy all the time, I'm allowed to make mistakes, I'm allowed to slip up, I don't need to do everything, I don't need to be perfect. I don't need to put my own happiness aside to reach some ridiculous goal of "pure perfection".

Even writing and publishing this post is so difficult because it goes against everything I think; I don't want anyone to see how imperfect I am, how imperfect this post is.
I'm treating this post as the first step in my attempt to accept that everything and everyone, including myself is not perfect and never will be.

To everyone reading this, it's okay to be yourself, it's okay to be a mess, it's okay to make mistakes, it's okay to be imperfect. Just be yourself always. Stop wasting time trying to impress everyone around you, spend more time enjoying life and the things you love.

I'm going to stop trying to be perfect and start loving my imperfect self unconditionally, and I can only hope that everyone else does the same. Because honestly, take it from someone who has risked her own happiness for perfection every second of her life, it's not worth it, it's never worth it, and it never will be worth it.

I love you all.

| Contour + Highlighting Tips + Tricks | Beginner's Guide to Contouring + Highlighting! |

I remember when I first heard about contouring and I was so confused. It looked really hard and I didn't quite understand what it was and what the point of doing it was. When you don't know much about highlighting and contouring it can definitely seem overwhelming. I decided to put together a few of my personal tips and tricks that I use when I contour to help anyone who is a little lost when it comes to this stuff!

So what is contouring & highlighting?!

When you contour you're creating shadows to help shape and define your face.
When you highlight you're drawing attention to certain features by attracting light to them.

First things first, use the right shade of contour for your skin tone

Different contour products come in different shades and it's important that the one you're using is a good fit for your skin tone. If you have cool undertones, use a cool toned contour and if you're warm toned, use a warm toned one. Don't use a product that's too light or dark for your skin tone either, it won't look natural.

Also, don't try to contour with a shimmery bronzer

Always opt for a matte bronzer when you contour. When you use a shimmery bronzer, you're actually causing light to be drawn to the area that you're contouring instead of creating a shadow to help minimize the area. Bronzers that have a shimmery look may also cause your contour to appear more muddy.

Contour and highlight in the right places

Every ones face is different, so it's important to remember that not every one is going to contour and highlight the same way. Someone with a rounder face may want to contour their cheekbones and jaw line more than someone with an angled face.

The best way to figure out where you should be applying your contour and highlight is by figuring out what you want to have appear smaller, (contour), and what features you want to draw attention to, (highlight).

Most people contour their cheekbones, jawline, bridge of the nose, and forehead. The tip of the nose, the inner corners of the eyes, and the cheekbones, (above the contour), are places most people highlight.

Here's where I usually highlight and contour!

(Bad pic, I know, I know!)

Make sure you're using the right brushes

It's easy to feel overwhelmed when trying to figure out which brushes to use to contour, there's so many!
I usually use an angled contour brush to contour my face and a small fluffy brush to do my highlight!
Many brands offer brush kits with brushes specifically for highlighting and contouring to make choosing much easier!

And make sure you're using the brushes right

When you're blending out your contour, you want to have your hand closer to the end of the brush and you want to use a light hand. This will ensure your contour comes out looking more natural and will help prevent it from looking too harsh.

You want to use a light hand when you apply your highlight too.

Choose a highlight shade that matches your skin tone

Some highlight shades just don't work well with certain skin tones. I can't tell you how many times I've picked out a pretty highlight, only to have it look horrible on my skin because it just didn't go well with my skin tone.

Highlight where the light hits naturally

If you're having trouble figuring out where to apply your highlight, just look at the places on your face that light naturally hits. This is usually the forehead, under the eyebrows, bridge of the nose, high points on the cheekbones, on the cupids bow right above the lips, and the chin.
However, everyone is different and you can apply your highlight wherever you decide you want light and eyes drawn to.

Conceal acne/any imperfections with a darker concealer

This isn't really a contouring tip, but it's a mistake I see done often, even by professionals. When you want to hide a pimple, use a concealer that's either the shade of your foundation or a shade or two darker, this will help hide it better. Using a lighter concealer shade will actually draw eyes to it more, causing the pimple to appear more raised.

Think of it like highlighting. When you're highlighting your face, you're highlighting parts of your face you want eyes and light drawn to. Do you want eyes drawn to the pimple on your face? Probably not.

**Remember everyone is different and of course, everyone has different preferences when it comes to how they do their makeup! This is in no way a definitive guide on how to contour, just some of my own personal tips that work for me that I wanted to share.**

| March Favorites |

I can't believe March is over and it's finally the Spring! I'm so excited for warmer weather and longer days.

As with every month, I'm going to share with you all the things I've been loving this month! I switched things up a little though and decided to put all of my favorites into categories. If you like this new way, let me know in the comments and I'll continue with it every month!

Here are all the things I've been loving in March!

Favorite Skincare Product: Beauty 360 Deep Cleansing Charcoal Facial Cleanser

I have oily skin and I recently read that the best way to combat oil is by double-cleansing which is when you use a regular makeup remover/cleanser and then you use either an oil-based or charcoal cleanser. I bought this one because it was the cheapest, (I'm broke!), and I really like the results so far. My skin has been less oily and I've had fewer breakouts this month since starting to use this!

Favorite Lip Product: Maybelline Vivid Matte Liquid Lipstick in Grey Envy & L.A. Colors Matte Lipstick in Stay Put Plum

I've been looking for a grey lipstick for a while and this one from Maybelline is so pretty! It's not grey-grey but more of a grey-mauve. I feel like it looks amazing on me and it's long lasting and applies nicely.
The L.A. Colors lipstick is a really pretty matte plum. It's a super fun color and it lasts all day! The best part is I paid $2 for it!

Favorite Eye Product: Benefit They're Real Mascara

I'm totally late with trying out this product and honestly I wish I started using it sooner! It's now officially my favorite mascara ever. It makes my lashes look incredible and I'll probably be using it for the rest of my life!

Favorite Face Product: Wet n Wild PhotoFocus Setting Spray

This setting spray actually keeps my makeup on all day and night. It smells really good too and it's affordable. I've also been spraying a little of this on my eyeshadow brushes to make the colors pop out more and last longer.

Favorite Hair Product: Amika Bombshell Blowout Spray

First things first, this blowout spray smells amazing. It also makes my hair look so good after I blow dry it. I usually have to brush my hair 3 million times a day because it gets knotty but whenever I use this, my hair stays perfectly smooth.

Songs I've had on repeat this month:

Say You Won't Let Go - James Arthur

Something Just Like This - The Chainsmokers featuring Coldplay

Disney Music :)

Favorite Apps:

Unfollowers

This app allows me to track my followers on Instagram. I wasn't going to download an app like this but people on Instagram have a tendency to follow and unfollow just so they can get a follow and that's something that really annoys me. It also lets me see who interacts with me the most which I love!

Snapchat

I've been trying to use other social media platforms to help promote my blog and Snapchat is one of them. I've been trying to post pictures to my story everyday and I love how easy it is to interact with other people. I even met a few cool people through it! If you want to add me to see my day to day life or the thousands of pointless selfies I post, my username is ali.grigonis. (There's a whale emoji next to my name!)

That's everything I've been loving in March! What are some of your favorite products this month? Let me know in the comments!
